Janacek Cunning Little Vixen Suite
Martinu Rhapsody-Concerto for viola and orchestra
Timothy Ridout (viola)
Dvorak Symphony No 8

The final concert of the de Havilland Philharmonic’s 2017-18 season takes Bohemian Beauties as its theme.

It opens with Janacek’s Suite from the opera Cunning Little Vixen which is woven through with Moravian folk music and rhythms from the historical Czech lands. Bohuslav Martinu’s Rhapsody Concerto for Viola and orchestra is also based on Moravian folk songs and finds Martinu nostalgic for the music of his childhood homeland.

The orchestra are joined by violist Timothy Ridout of the Young Classical Musicians Artists Trust for this performance. Dvorak’s Eighth Symphony was composed to mark the occasion of Dvorak’s admission to the Prague Academy – a cheerful and popular work, it promises to be an uplifting and optimistic end to a wonderful season of orchestral music.
